The Square Knot is easily tied and will not jam, so it is always easy to untie It is most commonly used to tie two lines together at the ends.
To tie a square knot:
- Pass left and over and under right end.
- Curve what is now the left end toward the right and cross what is now the right end over and under the left.
- Tighten it up.
- 43% - 57% line breaking strength remaining.
